Singapore Zoo is great and the night safari is one of the best parts. Last time I was there I had a Malaysian Tapir at touching distance!
As for the violence in Thailand, the best indication I can give of the view here in Phuket is based on a posting in the forum of the local newspaper. It claimed to be from a Phuket resident in the Red enclave in Bangkok. It said there were hundreds of Phuket people in the group and all the others should be rushing up to Bangkok to join in. Paraphrasing, the resonses basically said... Nobody here knows any Phuket residents who are in the protests, nobody here knows who you are, but if by chance you really are from Phuket, don't come back!
