We have them tooooooooooooooooo

Our local orchids are throwing spikes madly and today started to open up. We have a fallen log in the front yard which has 3 orchids growing in it.

Julie and Bailey arrived Tuesday and it hasn't stopped raining since !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and the forecast for the next week is "RAIN", "Showers" and more "Rain".  At least we are not in the caravan park.

Based on those photos, what you have is Cymbidium canaliculatum. (I expect you to memorise that, there will be a test!!) These normally grow up high in the trees, especially in dead trees. They thrive on light! You can never give them too much sun. The worst thing you can do to them is start hosing them with water, especially in the colder times of the year. If you imagine how exposed they would be high up in a dead tree, how much sun and how little water other than natural rain, then you have perfect conditions. If you want to help the plant along, a flat teaspoon (no more) of slow release fertiliser sprinkled around it when you see new leaves starting to grow might get you better growth and more flowers.
Most importantly, look at it and enjoy.
